Case Study
The City of Calgary is one of the first Canadian municipal governments to annually ask citizens to rate their services. This is done by means of an annual satisfaction survey of the city's residents. In 1999, the Conference Board of Canada and the Institute of Public Administration of Canada recognized the City's leadership for using survey research to improve performance and respond to citizens' concerns.

Cameron Strategy has been conducting this important and highly public work for the City since 2001. Given that this survey is a critical performance indicator for the City, we carefully review the existing survey instrument each year and make any necessary revisions, while ensuring that its integrity is maintained and tracking measures are consistent over time. With our experience and insight in tracking programs, we work with City staff to develop a survey instrument that evaluates a broader range of services and greater depth of residents' opinions.

In 2003, Cameron Strategy surveyed 1,007 Calgarians (margin of error +/3%, 19 times out of 20). The results were extremely positive, and the City was appreciative of the survey's quality and insights. For detailed findings of the survey results, please visit the City's website at www.calgary.ca.
